Families of children with disabilities need solid evidence about the effectiveness of craniosacral therapy before availing their children of the practice. Claims about the therapy's benefits are questionable due to a number of shortcomings in the design and conduct of existing studies. The practice requires further study, especially because some proponents claim their efforts improve nervous system functioning in ways that remedy several health-related problems—hyperactivity, Down syndrome, autism, dyslexia, cerebral palsy, breastfeeding difficulties, colic, and ear infection, for example.
