This conceptual paper includes the results of a study evaluating the effectiveness of an evidence-based practice guide on responsive caregiver interaction for increasing the social engagement behavior of infants and toddlers with their caregivers. Greater use of a responsive caregiver interaction practice was associated with increased child engagement behavior with the parent and decreased child disengagement behavior with the parent. The study demonstrated that research evidence can inform practice in ways mirroring findings from empirical investigations.
