The new Caregiver Styles of Interaction Scales assess the kinds of interactive behaviors caregivers use with young children. The scales include five broad, mutually exclusive categories of caregiver interactive behavior, each with subcategories of styles of interaction. Newly revised and updated, the scales provide tools to assess the extent to which a reasonable balance exists in the use of different styles during caregiver-child interaction. Also included is a coding form for recording the 12 caregiver styles of interaction, used for either event or time coding. In addition, there is a scale for rating the extent to which each style is characteristic of a caregiver and a scale for summarizing the overall or typical mode of interaction used by the caregiver during a specified period of time.
